【About the Producer BANEXPORT】
Established in 2018, Finca Juan Martín is an initiative by BANEXPORT aimed at returning to the roots of coffee cultivation, where coffee producers from all over Colombia can learn, improve, and share their knowledge and experience.
This experimental space serves as a research farm to enhance specialty coffee production and processing techniques, while also being a testament to BANEXPORT's commitment to excellence and sustainability.
The name of the farm carries special meaning. It was named after Juan Martín, the son of Julián Ruiz and Sara Porras, whose birth coincided with the inception of this wonderful project. Beyond its familial symbolism, it represents the origin of this important journey in high-quality coffee production.
Aiming to promote excellence in Colombian coffee agriculture and achieve consistently outstanding coffee profiles over the long term, all coffee varieties cultivated on the farm undergo rigorous evaluation to refine cultivation techniques and post-harvest processing methods, ultimately yielding the highest quality coffee. This approach not only guarantees an exceptional product but also contributes to the development of coffee-growing regions, job creation, improved quality of life for producers, and strengthening local economies.
In addition to its commitment to quality, Juan Martín is known for its dedication to the environment and sustainability. One of the most significant initiatives is the installation of a solar power system at BANEXPORT's facilities in Popayán, Colombia. This system comprises 488 solar panels with a generating capacity of 201.6 kilowatts. This effort reduces CO2 emissions by 105.3 tons annually, equivalent to planting 421 trees.
Another important feature is its employment model and employee support. Unlike industry norms, Juan Martín provides a safe working environment, fair wages, benefits, and training opportunities through workshops and meetings. These efforts towards employee well-being and personal growth ensure a dignified workplace while simultaneously fostering their professional development.
Finca Juan Martín reflects BANEXPORT's innovative spirit and its determination to make a positive impact on coffee agriculture, the environment, and society. We hope these initiatives will inspire others striving for a more sustainable and equitable future.
【Information on Pink Bourbon Varietal】
The Pink Bourbon varietal is a type of Arabica coffee that originated from a natural genetic mutation in the Huila department of Colombia. Initially thought to be a cross between Red Bourbon and Yellow Bourbon, research has revealed a genetic relationship with Ethiopian indigenous varieties. Therefore, its exact origin remains unclear.
Trees of this varietal are characterized by being medium to low height compared to other varieties, with thick trunks and long branches. Young leaves are light green, while mature leaves are dark green. The fruit of this varietal is round and large, and its light pink color gave it the name "Pink Bourbon."
Pink Bourbon is rich in glucose and is characterized by a silky body and texture. This characteristic, combined with its unique flavor, makes it a highly appealing coffee for high-quality coffee lovers. However, Pink Bourbon coffee is a difficult varietal to cultivate and is not easily found on the market. Its rarity and the complexity of its production make it a very special coffee.
